Zodiac

I went to see Zodiac last night with David. It's the new film by David Fincher, he of Fight Club, and Seven fame.

It's based on the Robert Graysmith books about the real life notorious Zodiac, a serial killer who terrorized San Francisco with a string of seemingly random murders during the 1960s and 1970s. It follows Jack Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko) as Graysmith, a cartoonist for the San Fransisco Chronicle who working in the news room becomes obsessed with the unsolved and cryptic murders of the Zodiac. As his obsession takes over, his relationships, children and everything else in his life gives way to the hunt for the killer.

At 158 mins, it takes the time needed to properly develop the story. The 70s period is reconstructed authentically, and some of the camera work is sublime. In all, a highly enjoyable, thrilling film. Go see it.
